The Arbiter
03:32
|
|||
Sell your soul and buy the court
Bring the gavel crashing down
Walk me back down to the door
Lock me up and watch me drown
On time and wasted breath
No chains here no need for death
Join the ranks of bones left in this mess
Never young and never saved
Been this way for as long as I can recall
My life started when you made it change
Take from me and I will do the same
But I will be set free
And when I am you’ll answer me
Save your prayers now
Earn your amnesty
Seven years rotting in this cell
Know your moment when it happens or it’s gone
Steal a key and let the sun go down
Fade into the desert never make a sound
But I still hear the crack
Musket Fire into his back
Step in line now
Hell will want you next
I could go I could walk away but
Every man needs a good reason not to die
Save the judgement for the grave
Dig one extra just in case it pays
Find no peace at all
Dig up rage rage drink that that’s strong
Grind my teeth down
Seethe in this till dawn
There’s a certain kind of nightmare
It lies in wait and feeds on men who know
They’re just about to die
And when you wake from yours I’ll be there
Settling mine.
Cry for mercy till your tongue falls out
But there are consequences this world can’t provide
It’s up to me to see the wheel come round
The arbiter of action till the vengeance suits the crime
Now this could take time
If god were still alive
She’d cheer me on but I
Don’t need her to sort this out
Fill your hands and stand your ground
I’ll be damned if this is easy for you now.

Kidnapped
03:13
|
|||
Won’t you please tell me that story again
About how you were pure, then he made you sin
I know it’s not your fault he forces you to choose
He cut you down, and he kidnapped you, too.
There’s no way to prove it, there’s no way to know
Your story is sad, and that’s just how it goes
If you could turn back the clocks in your life
You’d make all the changes and make em all right
Now I’m gonna make this real easy for you
I don’t believe all of your lies
In the morning we’ll find we have run out of time
There’s the door, I’m no more, now kiss me goodbye
I don’t believe it not even a word
Your taking the truth and making it hurt
Now I’m not as dumb as your other guys
I see past the smoke and the mirrors you hide
Now I’m gonna make this real easy for you
I don’t believe all of your lies
In the morning we’ll find we have run out of time
There’s the door I’m no more
Now kiss me goodbye
Won’t you please tell me that story again
About how you were pure and he made you sin
I know it’s not you, it’s all in your roots
You gave him your hand and he kidnapped you too.
I’m gonna make this real easy for you
I don’t believe all of your lies
In the morning we’ll find we have run out of time
There’s the door, I’m no more, kiss my ass goodbye.

Grace Like an Anchor
04:13
|
|||
God exalt her, earth and altar
Rising from the grave where the canon falls
Boiling over, two to hold her
Stealing what you save for a higher call
Night to cover, born a brother
Let the bloodline mask where my heart is found
At the table, Cain and Abel
Raise another glass to a finer crown
Light swells in the air outside
Let your eyes grow wide now
Truth is a danger
The cruel joke of a rising tide
Let your cup run dry with
Grace like an anchor
Strength in hoarders, bone and mortar
Wasted on the zeal left to cauterize
Fight like a grenade, try on a new plague
Wear it till it heals then go up a size
March out of step now, less teeth and more growl
Cried against the storm the ship has run aground
Leave out the last word, new prince of this herd
File down the thorns, while the throne’s still warm
(Chorus)
After the earthquake, the last seal breaks
Christ you come and see what your son has done
Sky gets hotter, death in the water
Rising from the deep, now the wars begun
Hope’s tied to the tracks and dead again.
Chase down a few thoughts you stirred from
Way down there where your faith belongs
New chains for your peace of mind say
The glass may break but the blood moves on
Life’s cracks with a knack for giving in
Hope’s tied to the tracks and dead again.

Not Getting Stronger
03:43
|
|||
We left our town when we were good and young
And our mother said we’d make it if we just got along
So we walked as far as our feet could go
And when we got there we found out that we were not that far from home
The mountains in the distance didn’t seem all that tall
And the road went on for a couple days and ended at the shore
But we never saw it for ourselves we could walk no more
And the night gets longer
But we can’t go no farther
I fear we’re not getting stronger anymore.
Now let me down I think I’ll be alright
I didn’t need your stepping stones to learn how to fly
But when we touch down I think that we will find
That we were more accustomed to the world we left behind
Lately I’ve found different ways of dealing with the pain
And my dreams have these uncanny traits of predicting the rain
If I knew I wouldn’t lose respect I would just walk away
(Chorus)
I never thought I’d see the day when I’d have to realize, that even when I’m dreaming I am digging my own grave
I don’t believe it, no, must be some kind of lie.
It was a grand surprise you knew we’d fall for it someday
Now I found god when I was ten years old
But I’m guilty now of thinking that I don’t need her no more
So you laugh and say that I’ve become naive
But when the morning takes your innocence we’ll see what you believe
I just want one daydream where I’ll smile when it’s gone
I just want one memory I’ll like when I get old
So we’ll ease the pain together as our plans fail to unfold

Give me time
Let this be a mess it helps me think
I can find a bigger problem here, just let me break
Know what you bought
This was never part of our arrangement.
You should have sought
Someone else if this was what you needed
Cut in two
Using words that might as well be fossils
Lost on you like some unlucky lesser known apostle
Fear coming down
Trouble hounds like the spark of madness
Torn from the ground
Tell me, boy, how long have you been at this
|
||||
6. |
||||
The stained hour that let’s you drive
Dead heart pumping, still alive
In the cool of the blood that used to be yours
And the twisted black denim with the open sores
Up there, out there
Distant bowls pour down your spine
The odds are stacked that they’re real this time
You rattle the earth with the pulse of your breath
The Mojave moon is hung pale and wet alone
Out there, up there
The radio tower flashes on in time
The skin of your eyelid latches down and sighs
The stone arch of every moan
The mudwomb chant that leaves the night unknown
I am watching now here from mikes away
I can break ever step you thought was yours to make
Out there, up here
The polished void spilling out its stars
The semaphore pattern of a life gone wrong
Your soldiering comes to a cackling halt
As their headlights break around your silhouette
Out here
The radio tower flashes on in time
The span of your life slows down to shiver and tear at the excess mind
The angel break free again and finds you there at the edge of reason
Tangled in the desert air
You find the moon and you move to name her Marion
Canonfire grows scarce and dim near
The cracking black sky where his voice breaks in
All towering down and closing in from afar
Like the monolith crashes into passing stars
Out there, up there
The radio tower flashes on in time
The ghost of a nightmare catches
Wallow in fear, never open-eyed
